Only 11 in Davao get gold ticket in Pinoy Idol

EDITED

DAVAO has
the slimmest chance of capturing the first ever Pinoy Idol title.

Only a
total of 11 aspiring singers got the gold ticket in the Davao leg of the Pinoy
Idol
audition.

To date,
Davao has the least number of qualifiers in the on-going talent search for the
upcoming Philippine franchise of the hit Idol series.

Some of
the 11 passers are not actually residents of Davao. Some of those who took the
audition came from the neighboring regions of Bukidnon, Cotabato, Surigao,
Maguindanao and Zamboanga.

So far,
the only known Davao residents in the list are Mary Lycel Millan, Juliet
Bahala, Neil John Lubiano, Johnson Rey Oclarit, Germabel Lagat, Gemma Herradur and Ruffa Jehn Espada.

Millan
and Bahala are both grand champions of the NCCC-initiated Star of Davao, while
Lubiano, from Tagum City in Davao del Norte, was a grand finalist. Oclarit is a band vocalist of Baby in a Box and
IV Play.Escanilla, originally from Sultan Kudarat, is studying in Davao City. Lagat
is a student from Panabo City in Davao del Norte.

Herradura (not Hernandez as earlier reported) is working as  pastry chef of Marco Polo. Espada (earlier reported as the unidentified 12th passer) is
from Sultan Kudarat who currently studying in Davao City.

Millan
and Oclarit were among those who also got the gold ticket in the first Philippine
Idol
.

From
other areas are Maria Cresilda Retorta (from Bukidnon), Aimme Escanilla (from
General Santos City), and Mark Louis Mabasa (from Angeles City).

The
residence of the other qualifier named Marchie
Domag was not immediately known.

So far,
Cebu and the other Mindanao city of Cagayan de Oro have the most contestants
going to Manila. Both have 24 gold ticket holders.

Iloilo
followed with 23, while Batangas has 18.

SATISFIED

Despite
the short list, judge Wyngard Tracy said he was "very satisfied" with
the result in the Davao audition.

But he
admitted that they actually expected to have a high number of passers in Davao.

"Inasahan
namin na maraming may talent dito sa
Davao," said Tracy, considered as
the Philippine version of the acid-tongue American Idol judge Simon Cowell. But
he said they found natural talents in some of the Davao passers.

Judge
Ogie Alcasid butted in: "Maybe the talented singers here are already
performing professionally… maybe some are already in Manila."

The
judges’ next stop is in Manila.

"Siguradong
madugo ito
," director Louie Ignacio said. He said they expect the most
number of aspirants in the capital region.
