Palad brods get canned segment in Una Ka Bai!
THE entertaining singing Palad Brothers will only get a canned MTV-like segment in Una Ka Bai!, Davao’s newest early morning show which will debut at 6 am today over GMA5 Davao.
Cel Amores, GMA regional news and public affairs program manager, said it is not feasible for the two children to appear live in the early morning show.
“Daghang bawal sa mga bata,” Amores told reporters in an informal talk promoting the show.
She said the 6 am schedule is a factor since it is too early for the children to the studio.
Amores said the segment of the two brothers will be like a music video where they will perform their songs.
UKB, she said, is planning to tap the Palad Brothers in other upcoming segments intended for the children, like giving tips to young pupils and other feel-good segments for the kids.
“But for now, we will initially maximize on their musicality,” Amores said.
The Una Ka Bai! executive also said they are willing to extend help to other artists in Davao City.
She said they may make a portion intended to local musicians where they can perform their original songs.
“Maybe a minute in the opening or closing segment,” Amores said.
She said the UKB theme song is actually composed and performed by a local guy named Phillip Jude “Yaku” Maranan.
“I have a strong belief that Yaku will become popular,” Amores said.
UKB, she said, will also take the challenge to localize stories in its entertainment news segment.
GMA’s afternoon news program Testigo is usually running news about Kapuso stars in Manila stars. Most of the materials are often rehash from other national entertainment shows of the Kapuso network.
The GMA Davao show will be hosted by Derf Maiz, Sarah Hilomen and Mary Ken Sobrecarey.
The 24-year old Derf was selected as the lead male host after he bested the other Testigo reporters in their audition – the live coverage during the Kadayawan festival last August.
Derf started his media work with GMA Davao even before he earned his mass communication diploma from Holy Cross of Davao College. He was an intern with GMA during his college days. He was also trained at Mindanao TIMES during his intern days.
The 27-year-old Sarah applied for various positions in GMA. The UP-Los Baños grad from Tagum City joined in QTV’s reality show May Trabaho Ka seeking for a newscaster spot. She emerged in the top 5 among the several applicants, and got approval from GMA veteran broadcasters like Mike Enriquez, Mel Tiangco, and Arnold Clavio.
Mary Ken, the 19-year-old HRM student of University of Mindanao, passed the audition held few months ago for the position. She is a commercial model.
